lookin' out my window...waterloo, on

I grew up just outside of Toronto in a historic mill town called Georgetown. While now a suburban train stop, the nearby Niagara Escarpment really sets Georgetown apart and makes it a beautiful place to grow up.

In 1997 I started my undergraduate degree in Recreation and Leisure Studies at the University of Waterloo. Waterloo is a bustling college town in the heart of southern Ontario. Some of my favourite places in and around Waterloo include; Uptown Waterloo, the Jane Bond, Brick Brewery, and the UW Bike Centre. My co-op work placements while at Waterloo allowed me work with the Durham Board of Education, Snow Valley Ski Resort. I also had the pleasure of spending a semester studying at Griffith University, in Brisbane, Australia.

In 2001 I began my masters degree in Geography, working with Dr. Judith Cukier at the Unversity of Waterloo. My research applied the Ecological Footprint accounting method to compare the ecological impacts of tourism. I also managed to work at the University Map and Design Library and the Mid-Sized Cities Research Centre.

After graduation in 2003, I spent two years living and working in beautiful Halifax, Nova Scotia. I highly recommend Nova Scotia as both a great vacation spot, and as a place to live. Some of my favourite things about Nova Scotia include; the harbour, bouldering, Wentworth, lobster, identifying container ships, Canso, The Coast, and of course, Mountain Equipment Co-op.

In September 2005, I began a Ph.D program in Geography at McGill University, Montreal. If you are interested in this type of academic pursuit, you can take a look at my CV. I currently live in the Plateau area of Montreal and some of my favourite things that I have discovered so far are; bagels, Americano, and divided bike lanes.

I defended my dissertation in November 2009, less than a month before my wife and I welcomed our first child, Olive. In January 2010, I began a postdoctoral appointment with Dr. Renee Sieber at McGill University, Montreal.
